Clayhill Arts Awarded GOLD for Green Tourism Award

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded Gold for a Green Tourism Award.

Green Tourism works to promote a greener, cleaner environment, for people, places and our planet; by recognising and supporting eco-friendly achievements of tourism businesses with their internationally respected accreditation programme of Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

Taking part in a green check assessment we achieved an overall score of 86% which was set across three goals – People, Places, Planet. Below you will find our scores for each section and you can read about our approach to these goals in our Environmental Policy

Starting Clayhill Arts from scratch gave us a unique opportunity to build a business that had the environment at the heart of what we do, both in regard to the building and ongoing business practices.

We wanted to create somewhere that had as little impact as possible but gave back as much as possible, using the latest research, technology and ideas to create somewhere that connected us to the wider environment through learning, living and eating.

We redeveloped the building using latest renewable technology to power and heat; used a natural spring to provide water; used local sourcing and worked around the local ecology. We felt we had to both take responsibility for the local environment and be its advocate by showing what is possible with only a few tweaks and adjustments to how we live, work and learn.

Green Tourism champion investment and improvement in local communities. When businesses devote some time and energy to contribute to local people, it becomes part of investing in a truly sustainable and ethical mindset. By encouraging staff and individuals to play their part in a business’s green journey, they will feel respected and valued; as well as ensuring a happy and eco-aware workforce.

Living and operating sustainably is a process that involves promoting and caring for the natural environment, helping conserve the local area and its economy and supporting local suppliers of ethically-produced, seasonally-grown food and drink. We encourage our members to actively introduce guests or consumers to genuine experiences, both in the great outdoors and those involving arts, craft and culture.

Green Tourism are committed to a low carbon future and finding new ways to reduce our industry’s footprint. Aiming to inform and inspire our participating businesses about the circular economy, ecological and cultural diversity and ensuring efficient use of our planet’s resources. Green Tourism works with selected partners and affiliates to strengthen our offer as one of the world’s leading eco-friendly accreditation organisations.
