July 2022 – Summer Courses at Clayhill Arts

It’s been an incredibly creative Summer, with good weather, good food and good company!

4th – 6th July: Paper Garments with Jennifer Collier

Jennifer has been so kind, generous and informative in a fun, accessible and realistic way. She adapted to the needs of her students and worked accordingly. The group has shared so much personality, resources and laughter. Absolutely loved my time at Clayhill Arts and hope to return asap. They took such care and every effort with everything and created amazing meals for me; it was such a treat.

I will definitely use the skills learnt in my foundation course and further studies. Naturally, I learned many skills in sewing and garment design, but I was also able to talk with everyone about their careers and ideas. Jennifer taught us lots of tips and tricks based on her experience in the craft – and she provided everything and more. The course was very hands-on and practical, keeping the course engaging. The accommodation was lovely and the grounds were beautiful to walk around

I have never worked in such a massive, but thoughtfully put together space. . . Everywhere you look is an inspiration here at Clayhill Arts. The attention and consideration to detail is just incredible. This really is the nicest place I have stayed in a very long time, so I am feeling very lucky to be teaching here. As well as a great space to teach, learn and chill the food at Clayhill Arts is just INCREDIBLE. . .

9th – 11th July: Out of This Earth with Claire Benn

Clayhill is such a special place. It has made a deep impact on me and I would love to return. Your hospitality was wonderful, the food was so nourishing, creative, fresh and in perfect harmony with the beautiful space. It was a joy to share the whole weekend with a lovely group of women and Claire was a fantastic tutor. Everything about the weekend was just perfect and it has really inspired me and also my practice. As you know, I had booked last year and was so disappointed that it was cancelled so the anticipation was immense when it was all back on again. It totally surpassed expectations! I love what you do at Clayhill Arts. The course was hands-on and allowed for creative development. I have gained new skills such as collaboration, new friends, loads of techniques and new ways of working. Your venue is superb and the food is outstanding. You are the perfect hosts.

15th – 17th July: Weaving with Colour with Angie Parker

Amazing and really fantastic in every way. Better than I could have imagined it could possibly be. The freedom, energy and enthusiasm to be creative and also space for individual freedom which was fantastic. Everything has been thought about and considered. Amazing stay, incredible workshop, wonderful group of people, beautiful setting and architecture and the most fresh, seasonal delicious food! Thank you!! All really fantastic.
– Joanna Bailey

The relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the course along with learning. The most important thing in Angie spreads her time fairly and does not make you feel nervous about asking questions or making errors. The catering was really delicious and beautifully presented.

Firstly, a huge thank you for such a fabulous weekend. I genuinely feel privileged to have had this Clayhill experience. I did not expect to feel as though I’d been on a retreat given that I was leading the workshop, but the luxurious accommodation, stunning surroundings, and amazing food has made it feel this way. You’ve created such a special thing and though it’s a lot of hard work for you, I hope the positive feedback makes it all worth it.

19th – 22nd July: Masterclass in Children’s Book Illustration with Alexis Deacon

Great tutor – very knowledgeable and helpful. Lovely blend of theory and practical. Accessible tutor who encouraged us all; well thought out course structure and pace – something for each of us. The venue is idyllic too and loved the cooking as well. It was lovely to have the tutor staying at the venue, so could continue conversations. A bonus that we worked in such a great open space – bit of history around us too.
– Sally Burch

What I liked most about the courses is the chill/relaxed atmosphere as well as the casual yet professional teaching. The accommodation is very top quality! Better than most hotels I’ve been to in the past!

29th- 31st July: Crafting Curious Automata with Stephen Guy

The course was fab. Really inspirational. Great to see other people’s work and learn from the whole group. Really came away with a good foundation to continue at home. Stephen was a great tutor; really encouraging and personable. He really knew his craft and was really interested in our ideas and making them a reality. The accommodation had careful thought given to our comfort. The food was all amazing. Everything was delicious.
